RunningWorks Cross Country Camp Staff at Camp Canadensis, 2009
This page provides pictures of some of the forty-plus members of the RunningWorks staff at Canadensis,
and of our evening speakers, Coaches and Olympians Marcus O'Sullivan and Derick "Ringo" Adamson, and outstanding
college athletes, John Richardson of the University of Kentucky and Mike Kerrigan of Villanova University.

As usual, staff members were especially busy, performing multiple functions throughout the week. Besides serving as
cabin proctors, activities supervisors, and running group leaders, staff members taught a variety of classes. Marcus
O'Sullivan made two evening presentations, one, on Threshold Training, and a second motivational talk
based on his early experiences in running. Ringo Adamson made one evening presentation, focusing on his coming to America, his
introduction to running, and his rise to six World Championships and two Olympics; he also served as a group counselor and
as "The Drill Master," teaching classes on Flexibility and Strength Drills. John Richardson and Mike Kerrigan
spoke briefly on their experiences as former RunningWorks campers who became sub-4 minute milers in college, stressing the need
to focus on goals and training to succeed. In addition, throughout the week, other staff members did classes on Developing
Core Strength, Race Prep and Mental Focus, and Gait Analysis. There were also optional classes on Yoga
Exercises, PNF stretching, College Selection by Runners, and Nutrition and Top Performance.
In addition, besides the optional afternoon activities of ga ga, volleyball, swimming, frisbee, kick ball, wiffle ball,
kayaking, or just hanging out, campers visited the Nike Van attended by shoe specialists Ozzie and Kevin, who used
unique "gait analysis" technology to show them how to select the best training and racing shoes.

Lord of the Flies Revisited?
Early on Saturday morning, with the rain falling and the light just appearing above the horizon, a strange sound
could be heard in the woods just beyond the tennis courts . . . and a strange totem or symbol . . . some kind of
mystical representation of what or who we are, perhaps . . . could be seen! The sound? . . . elves, or children, or
light-footed women, scurrying about. The totem?
Something from a movie or a book? The Lord of the Flies, perhaps? An offering for the beasty? Perhaps it's a cocoon:
the tiny gnats that tortured us throughout the week evolving into something much bigger? Maybe it is just a prank played on
the guys by Clair and Andrea? Whatever . . . you decide.
